Unfortunately around twelve years ago it was discovered the Glen of Imaal suffered from an hereditary eye disease called Progressive Retinal Atrophy. The breed worldwide is pulling together to combat this and two research projects are underway to try and determine which and what form Glens suffer from. Optigen in the United States and Bochum in Germany. The EFG are proud that they instigated the “Bochum Campaign” and are honoured that the Kennel Club Charitable Trust recognised our effort by the awarding of a grant to us to go towards the continuation of the work. We have pledged to match it pound for pound and towards that goal a weekend in July has been organised and all are invited.
JULY 12th
Professors Bedford and Epplen (Bochum) will be in attendance with Prof. Epplen giving a talk on PRA and how the investigation into the DNA marker for Glen of Imaal Terriers is progressing. Prof. Bedford will be doing limited eye testing (3-5pm) for Glens and our friends the Cesky Terrier. Obviously if you are local & aren’t able to attend on the 13th an effort will be made to fit you in for eye testing.
Today is a good day to attend if you just want to talk Glen (or Cesky) or wish to concentrate on the presentations by the eye experts. All are welcome and the evening promises a very eventful Soiree.
JULY 13th
COMPANION SHOW judged by Paul Eardley and Rene Kelleter. Prof. Bedford will be doing eye testing (BOOKING ESSENTIAL). There will be agility, lure, go to ground, events, stalls, food & anything else we can fit in!
